New Delhi, Updated: 12:09 PM Mar 30, 2026 IST — IndiGo has launched a daily non-stop flight between Kolkata and Shanghai, beginning March 29, as it expands international services and strengthens air links between India and China amid rising business and leisure travel demand. The airline expects the new route to ease passenger movement and support growing trade ties between the two economies.
The Kolkata–Shanghai service expands IndiGo’s China footprint after the restoration of Kolkata–Guangzhou flights and recent launches from Delhi; the carrier now operates 21 weekly flights to mainland China. The route will be flown with the fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo, offering a cost-effective, comfortable option for travelers.
Kolkata will serve as a hub for one-stop connections to Shanghai from several Indian cities — including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur and Bhubaneswar — making onward travel smoother. Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, said the link strengthens connectivity with China and creates opportunities for business and cultural exchange, highlighting Shanghai’s role as a major global financial centre and gateway for trade and travel.
Flight timings (local): depart Kolkata 21:45, arrive Shanghai 04:40 next day; return departs Shanghai 05:40.
