Dushanbe, Tajikistan — An earthquake measuring magnitude 4.5 struck Tajikistan on April 13 at 20:04:27 IST, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported. The tremor was recorded at latitude 38.98 N and longitude 70.61 E at a depth of 10 km; NCS posted the details on X.
Earlier the same day, NCS recorded two other quakes in the region: a magnitude 6.1 at 09:54:02 IST (38.86 N, 70.61 E, depth 10 km) and a magnitude 3.9 at 10:36:09 IST (39.02 N, 70.40 E, depth 10 km).
The United Nations Development Coordination Office notes that earthquakes, floods and landslides — risks intensified by climate change — regularly threaten Tajikistan’s landscapes and vulnerable communities, displacing thousands each year and causing estimated losses of about 1.3 percent of the country’s GDP.
