Beijing, December 10 (ANI) — China has executed Bai Tianhui, the former general manager of China Huarong International Holdings Limited, following his conviction on bribery charges, Xinhua reported.
According to a statement posted on the Tianjin High People’s Court’s official WeChat account and cited by Global Times, the Tianjin No.2 Intermediate People’s Court carried out the execution on Tuesday with the approval of the Supreme People’s Court.
Bai was sentenced to death on May 28, 2024, by the Tianjin No.2 Intermediate People’s Court. The court also deprived him of his political rights for life and ordered the confiscation of all his personal property for accepting bribes. Bai appealed the sentence, but the Tianjin High People’s Court rejected the appeal and upheld the original verdict on February 24, 2025, before submitting the case to the Supreme People’s Court for review and final approval, Global Times reported.
The Supreme People’s Court found that between 2014 and 2018 Bai, while holding multiple senior positions—including head of the third business development department, general manager and managing director of the investment banking department at Huarong (Hong Kong) International Holdings Co., Ltd., and capital operations director, assistant general manager, deputy general manager and general manager of China Huarong International Holdings Co., Ltd.—used his posts to secure benefits for entities involved in project acquisitions and corporate financing. In return, he illegally accepted money and property totaling more than 1.108 billion yuan (about $152.8 million), Global Times said.
The court concluded that Bai’s conduct constituted the crime of bribery. Citing the particularly large sums involved, especially severe circumstances, extremely serious social impact, and substantial losses to state and public interests, the Supreme People’s Court determined the case warranted the harshest legal penalty.
