PM Narendra Modi spoke by phone on Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the situation in West Asia and to convey India’s concerns, emphasising the protection of civilians and urging an early cessation of hostilities.
Modi posted on X that he had the call, underlining that civilian safety is a priority and reiterating India’s call for hostilities to end soon. In his post he wrote: “Had a telephone call with PM Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the current regional situation. Conveyed India’s concerns over recent developments and emphasised the safety of civilians as a priority. India reiterates the need for an early cessation of hostilities.”
The conversation followed recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran and the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran subsequently launched a series of missiles toward Israel and other countries in the region, escalating tensions across West Asia.
The call comes amid wider diplomatic activity: on Sunday night Modi spoke with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, strongly condemning attacks on the Gulf nation and expressing India’s solidarity with the UAE.
