Fresh reports from Balochistan say another wave of alleged enforced disappearances has occurred, with five young men reportedly taken by Pakistani security forces from various districts, while four previously missing persons have returned home, The Balochistan Post reports.
According to The Balochistan Post, Danish, son of Naik Bakht, was allegedly detained on November 27 at Shaheed Fida Chowk in Turbat, Kech district. His family says he was moved to an unknown location and that authorities have not acknowledged his detention. In Mastung, two men — Obaidullah, son of Abdul Nabi (a local police official), and Muhammad Shafa, son of Safar Khan — were allegedly taken into custody on November 21 and have since disappeared. From Syedan, two youths identified as Naveed Jan, son of Abdul Ghani, and Sanaullah, son of Mia, were reportedly detained on November 20 at the Prom Cross area of Panjgur. Families say repeated appeals to authorities have produced no information on their whereabouts or condition.
Amid these reports, four missing persons have reportedly returned to their families: Khaliq Mola Bakhsh, missing since August 25 from Kohlu; Haji Shoaib, son of Wahid Bakhsh, who disappeared from Panjgur on November 7; Haji Muhammad Hussain from Kharan; and Jibran Ahmed from Nasirabad, Kech, The Balochistan Post said.
Human rights defenders and local communities have voiced deep concern over the rising number of disappearances in the province. Rights organisations accuse Pakistani authorities of a pattern of abductions and unlawful detentions carried out in the name of national security and have urged an end to what they call a “culture of impunity,” demanding the release of those held without charge, the report added.
