Tokyo, December 4 — The United Arab Emirates and Japan held the third meeting of the Subcommittee on Political Diplomacy and International Cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI) in Tokyo. The session was co-chaired by Reem Ketait, Deputy Assistant Minister for Political Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Iwamoto Keiichi, Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both delegations reaffirmed the strength of UAE–Japan ties, citing shared strategic interests, long-standing relations and frequent high-level exchanges. They underlined their resolve to rapidly finalize the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Discussions explored ways to deepen cooperation across strategic areas such as the economy, space, advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and enhanced coordination in multilateral fora. The two sides pledged to advance the partnership to support stability, prosperity and sustainable development for both countries. Delegates also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including situations in the Middle East and Asia, stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts and promote global security. They emphasized the protection of civilians in conflict zones and the need for safe, sustained and unhindered humanitarian access, specifically citing Gaza and Sudan. The parties agreed to continue regular consultations to further shared objectives and strengthen bilateral cooperation. After the subcommittee meeting, Reem Ketait met Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Onishi Yohei to reaffirm plans for deeper cooperation, including greater parliamentary engagement. UAE Ambassador to Japan Shihab Al Faheem and representatives from relevant UAE entities participated in the meetings.
