Canberra/Adelaide, April 29 — A small plane crashed into a hangar at Parafield Airport in Adelaide, South Australia, while attempting to land, killing the pilot and a passenger and sparking a large fire. Authorities said 11 other people were taken to hospital.
Police evacuated the immediate area after the collision. Officials reported one person with life‑threatening injuries was transported to hospital; two others sustained serious injuries, one had minor injuries and six people suffered smoke inhalation. Thick black smoke billowed across the site, and the Metropolitan Fire Service urged nearby residents to remain indoors.
Chief Inspector Andrew McCracken said the aircraft struck hangar 54 shortly after takeoff, causing significant damage, injuries and a blaze. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has opened an investigation. The aircraft involved was a twin‑engined Diamond DA42.
