New Delhi, December 4 (ANI) — Abdullah Abu Shawesh, Palestine’s ambassador to India, said he held a “very good discussion” with India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs about rebuilding Gaza and expressed confidence that New Delhi will soon offer practical support in both Gaza and the West Bank.
“We expect a lot from India… The sky is the limit of our expectations for India regarding the reconstruction and recovery of Gaza,” Shawesh told ANI. He said the engagement he described went beyond rhetoric and that India would be “with us, not on a theoretical level but on a practical level, in Gaza and the West Bank also.”
Shawesh criticised the United Nations for adopting resolutions in Palestine’s favour that remain unimplemented, calling for action rather than words. He urged a boycott of the Israeli occupation and settlements, arguing that continued trade in Israeli goods undermines stated opposition to settlement activity. “No one can say that they are strongly against Israeli settlements when Israeli products are floating in their markets. This is hypocrisy,” he said.
He also suggested that the international community has peaceful legal tools that, if applied, could pressure Israel quickly: “Just stop flying to Israel, stop trading with Israel, start boycotting the Israeli occupation tools, stop receiving any settler tourists.”
India, for its part, has reiterated its commitment to a lasting peace and welcomed the Gaza Peace Agreement, while recognising the facilitation roles played by the United States, Egypt and Qatar. New Delhi continues to support a two-state solution as the pathway to resolving the conflict.
Citing Al Jazeera figures reported by ANI, the article noted the human toll since the October 2023 Hamas attack: at least 70,117 Palestinians killed and 170,999 injured in Gaza, while 1,139 people were killed in Israel and more than 240 were taken captive during the October 7 attacks.
