Paris, March 27 — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in France to discuss ways to strengthen India–Canada cooperation across several areas, including trade and critical minerals.
Anand posted on X that the two ministers followed up on the partnership advanced by their leaders during a recent visit to India and explored deeper collaboration on trade, the situation in the Middle East, and priority sectors such as critical minerals, agriculture and education.
Jaishankar also held talks with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who said their frequent exchanges reflect a strong India–Germany partnership. Both ministers expressed concern about developments in West Asia and discussed diplomatic approaches to address the wider implications of the crisis.
At the G7 session with invited partners on reforming global governance, Jaishankar emphasized the need for urgent UN Security Council reform, more efficient peacekeeping operations, and stronger humanitarian supply chains. He highlighted Global South priorities—energy, fertiliser supplies and food security—and shared India’s views on initiatives such as IMEC.
Jaishankar noted that uncertainties stemming from conflicts in West Asia underscore the importance of building more resilient trade corridors and supply chains.
