Tel Aviv, March 27 — The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) announced Friday that they struck a central Iranian facility in Yazd used to produce naval missiles and sea mines. The operation, the IDF said, was carried out with guidance from military intelligence and the Navy’s intelligence flotilla. Iran had not confirmed the report at the time of the announcement.
According to the IDF, the Yazd complex was involved in planning, developing, assembling and storing advanced naval missiles intended for launch from surface ships, submarines and helicopters against both fixed and mobile maritime targets. The force described the location as a principal site where the Iranian Navy develops most of its naval missiles and sea mines.
The IDF characterized the strike as complementary to earlier actions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) naval command, saying it inflicts a “severe blow” to the naval forces’ production capabilities. The military added that it will continue to target the regime’s military industries to deny the production capabilities built over years.
In posts on X, the IDF said overnight strikes also hit sites in and around Tehran linked to ballistic missile production and air-defence systems. It said Israel Air Force strikes in western Iran, directed by Military Intelligence, targeted launchers and missile storage sites that Israel assessed posed a threat.
Regional outlets reported explosions heard in Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar. Al Jazeera Breaking cited port authorities saying Kuwait’s Shuwaikh Port had been attacked by drones.
The strikes come as the confrontation between the US-Israel coalition and Iran entered its fourth week. The Jerusalem Post, citing the Wall Street Journal, reported that the United States is considering sending an additional 10,000 ground troops to West Asia even as diplomatic talks with Iran continue. Earlier, US President Trump said Iran had sought a seven-day pause on strikes targeting its energy infrastructure; he said that pause was extended to 10 days, until April 6, though US and Israeli strikes have continued.
Separately, the IRGC said early Friday that it launched the 83rd wave of “Operation True Promise 4,” attacking what it described as key American and Israeli military sites in the region with advanced missiles and drones.
