Defence Ministry Launches Multilingual Websites for Enhanced Accessibility

New Platforms for Defence Information

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Department of Defence (DoD) have launched revamped websites aimed at enhancing user experience and accessibility. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh unveiled these updated platforms on October 19, ensuring they adhere to the latest Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM) 3.0 and Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) 3.0.

Emphasis on Accessibility and Usability

The newly designed websites prioritize usability, making it easier for users to access essential defence information. Citizens, veterans, industry stakeholders, and other users can now find valuable content—including defence policies, government initiatives, and updates—available in 22 of India’s official languages, greatly expanding accessibility beyond English.

Aligning with Digital India Initiatives

This upgrade aligns perfectly with the government’s Digital India initiative and e-governance objectives, which emphasize transparency and the citizen-centric delivery of information. By consolidating official data, the revamped websites provide a vital resource for industry participants and researchers who are interested in tracking developments within the defence sector.

A Focus on Practical Usefulness

While this launch represents a significant step toward improving digital governance, it is essential to note that it does not alter existing defence operations or procurement processes. The effectiveness of these websites will ultimately depend on their ability to remain current, user-friendly, and practically accessible—not just on meeting compliance standards.

The true measure of success for these platforms will be determined by the quality, accessibility, and timeliness of the information provided. The Ministry of Defence hopes to ensure the websites remain robust resources that cater to the evolving needs of users.
