The launch follows moves by India to restore visa services for Chinese nationals. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on November 26 that the visa regime for tourism and business is now fully functional after a five-year suspension following the 2020 border clashes. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said tourist visas are again being issued to Chinese nationals, while business visas had already resumed earlier.
India resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese nationals worldwide in November 2025, building on a limited reopening that began in July 2025. The resumption of visa services is part of a series of people-focused confidence-building measures agreed by both sides in 2025, which also included the resumption of direct commercial flights in October 2025 and the revival of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra pilgrimage.
Officials expect the restored visa services and the new online system to facilitate tourism, trade and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
