Dhaka, March 28 — In response to global fuel shortages and rising prices linked to the Middle East crisis, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been assigned to guard multiple fuel depots nationwide to prevent unauthorized hoarding and ensure steady distribution, the force said Saturday. The deployment was ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs and is being carried out under supervision of BGB Headquarters.
Temporary base camps have been established in secure sites to support operations in more remote areas. Since the morning of March 25, 2026, BGB personnel have been stationed at 19 depots across nine districts: Dhaka (1), Kurigram (2), Rangpur (3), Rajshahi (3), Sylhet (2), Moulvibazar (3), Cumilla (3), Brahmanbaria (1), and Sunamganj (1). Staff at each location are operating under designated officers, with heightened intelligence monitoring intended to deter illegal hoarding, illicit sales and potential sabotage.
BGB said it is coordinating closely with depot management for prompt information sharing. The force’s visible presence is intended to stabilise supply lines and reassure the public. Measures to prevent cross-border smuggling have been intensified, including increased land and river patrols, new checkpoints for inspections, and strengthened intelligence surveillance.
Officials also reported stepped-up monitoring at Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) and Land Customs Ports (LCPs), with regular checks of trucks, lorries and other import‑export vehicles.
Separately, amid the country’s energy pressures linked to the West Asia conflict, a senior government official said India supplied an additional 5,000 tonnes of diesel on Friday night. (ANI)
