A Baloch university student, identified as Mumtaz Baloch, is reported missing after an alleged pickup by Pakistani security forces in Turbat, The Balochistan Post has reported. Mumtaz, a fifth-semester student in the Balochi Department at the University of Balochistan, was reportedly taken from Kolwahi Bazaar in Apsar on the third night of Eid and moved to an undisclosed location. His family says they have received no information from authorities and do not know his whereabouts or condition.
The family described the situation as painful and unjustified. The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) has taken up the case and urged state authorities to ensure Mumtaz’s immediate and safe return. VBMP has long documented alleged enforced disappearances in Balochistan and continues to press for answers and accountability.
VBMP’s protest camp in Quetta, now in its 6,115th day, remains a focal point for families, activists, and supporters demanding explanations and redress. VBMP officials say the sustained demonstrations underscore the systemic nature of disappearance cases in the region.
Ghulam Farooq, VBMP’s information secretary, stressed the need for families to come forward with documented evidence so cases can be formally registered with national and international bodies. He called on political parties, student organizations, and civil society groups to support documentation efforts and amplify the voices of affected families.
