Vienna, May 23, 2026 (ANI/WAM) — Austria’s Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, urged the European Union to speed up trade negotiations and remove barriers to deepen economic cooperation with the UAE and other international partners.
Hattmannsdorfer welcomed recent progress in Europe’s economic ties with Mexico, including the update and extension of the trade agreement that has been in force since 2000. He said expanding the network of free trade agreements is essential to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and called for accelerating efforts to broaden economic partnerships, including with Southeast Asian countries.
Martha Schultz, president of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, described the revised EU-Mexico agreement as a significant step for Austrian businesses seeking access to a large foreign market. She said the agreement should give strong momentum to bilateral trade and open new opportunities for Austrian exporters in Latin America’s biggest export market.
The Federation of Austrian Industries also welcomed the signing. Secretary-General Christoph Neumayer said the move will facilitate European companies’ access to overseas markets and support export growth.
