Sao Paulo, May 23 (ANI) — Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security released the first report on its “Brazil Against Organised Crime” plan, detailing expanded federal measures aimed at dismantling criminal networks and strengthening security nationwide. The strategy emphasizes coordinated policing, improved intelligence sharing and targeted prison reforms.
At a press briefing in Brasilia, MJSP Executive Secretary Ademar Borges said the government has begun actions focused on the Amazon and on tightening security in penitentiaries that serve as coordination hubs for criminal groups. To support operations in the region, the federal government allocated R$66 million for the Integrated Forces to Combat Organized Crime (FICCOs) and signed a R$150 million agreement with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) to finance equipment and investments by the Federal Police (PF), Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the National Force across the nine Amazon states.
Officials also announced more than R$200 million aimed at policing initiatives designed to prevent criminal organizations from recruiting in economically vulnerable communities, according to reports cited by Brasil 247.
On prison measures, Borges said enhanced security upgrades will be implemented in facilities identified as strategic for criminal coordination, with the goal of reducing factions’ operational capacity. These efforts build on Operation Mute, launched in 2023 and now reinforced under the new national strategy; since its inception the operation has reached 680 prison units and involved over 41,000 prison officers.
National Secretary of Penal Policies Andre Garcia called the campaign an unprecedented, comprehensive push against organized crime, stressing the importance of cutting communications between inmates and outside networks. He also highlighted steps to integrate intelligence among agencies and to upgrade security in prisons across all regions of Brazil.
