New Delhi, March 25 — Argentina’s ambassador to India, Mariano A. Caucino, called India’s push to diversify energy imports amid disruptions from the West Asia conflict a very wise strategy and said Argentina could become an important supplier for energy and other resources.
Caucino told ANI that India has been widening its network of energy partners and that Argentina has the potential to contribute as bilateral ties deepen. He noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comment in Parliament that India is developing a plan to secure energy supplies from more than 40 countries, and added, ‘Argentina can be, of course, one of them.’
The ambassador pointed to Argentina’s large landmass combined with a relatively small population — the country ranks among the world’s largest by area while having fewer than 50 million residents, compared with India’s ranking — which keeps domestic demand for food and energy lower and leaves export capacity for growing Asian markets.
Caucino said Argentina could export substantial volumes of food and minerals and potentially energy to India and other Asian economies as cooperation expands beyond agriculture and mining into the energy sector.
On the wider geopolitical picture, he described recent Middle East violence as overlapping conflicts rather than a single confrontation. He said Argentina has expressed support for the United States and Israel while hoping diplomacy will bring a stable resolution for the region.
Caucino also noted that Argentina has so far avoided major energy disruptions thanks to domestic reforms aimed at sustainability, but cautioned that the highly interconnected global economy means prolonged instability anywhere could eventually affect countries everywhere. ‘The world today is too interconnected, so we require stability for countries to achieve their national goals,’ he said.
