New Delhi/US, February 5 (ANI) — US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Thursday praised External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent talks with US leaders Marco Rubio and Scott Bessent, calling the exchanges evidence of ‘limitless potential.’ In a post on X, Gor said engagement between the two countries is happening at the highest levels and signaled US readiness to deepen the partnership.
Jaishankar, who is in the United States to attend the Critical Minerals Ministerial convened by Secretary Rubio, said his meetings included a detailed review of bilateral cooperation and planning of the diplomatic calendar for the year. He described the discussions as wide-ranging and practical, covering both the bilateral agenda and broader global developments.
‘We did a fairly detailed review of our bilateral cooperation,’ Jaishankar said, noting that foreign ministers typically use such meetings to map out what each side expects to accomplish together in the coming months. In addition to bilateral priorities, the conversations touched on regional and global issues, including the Indo-Pacific, developments in West Asia and the Middle East — including Gaza — the Ukraine conflict, and happenings in the Western Hemisphere. ‘In a sense, we discussed the world, we discussed our relationship, and it was a very open sort of forthcoming conversation,’ he added.
At the ministerial, Jaishankar emphasized India’s support for FORGE (Forum on Resource, Geostrategic Engagement), a newly launched initiative described as a successor to the Mineral Security Partnership. Nearly 50 countries attended the meeting convened by Rubio; Jaishankar called the session productive and outcome-oriented and highlighted the strategic importance of critical minerals.
‘Critical minerals are a very important subject; the US has been a partner for some years,’ he said, noting India’s backing for the FORGE initiative and framing the ministerial as a constructive forum to advance cooperation in resource security.
Gor’s endorsement on social media and Jaishankar’s comments underscore an active diplomatic push this year to strengthen ties and coordinate on a range of geopolitical and economic issues. (ANI)
