An Indian worker was killed and three others were wounded in a drone strike in the Moscow region, the Indian embassy in Russia said on Sunday.
Russian media earlier reported that the overnight Ukrainian drone attack in the Moscow region left three people dead and six injured, without identifying the nationalities of those killed. The embassy said its officials visited the site and met the injured at a local hospital.
“The embassy mourns the loss of one Indian worker and is coordinating with company management and local authorities to provide necessary assistance,” the mission said in a social media post, while declining to disclose the identities of the deceased or the injured.
The Russian embassy in New Delhi also expressed condolences, saying it shared the family’s grief and extended sympathy to those hurt in the attack on civilian facilities.
Moscow authorities said air-defence systems intercepted a large number of incoming drones. Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, quoted by state media, said more than 120 drones were shot down in the past 24 hours. Russian reports added that two people were killed in Mytishchi when falling drone debris struck a house under construction.
The strike is part of a wider pattern of escalating long-range drone and missile exchanges between Russia and Ukraine in recent months. Ukrainian forces reportedly targeted multiple installations in and around Moscow during the overnight operation.
Investigations and rescue efforts were ongoing. Local officials and company representatives were working with the embassy to assist the injured and to establish full details of casualties and damage.
