Islamabad, Dec 6, 2025 — Late Friday night Pakistani and Afghan forces exchanged heavy fire along the Chaman border in Balochistan, local media reported, leaving several people injured but no fatalities.
Dawn and other outlets said the exchange began around 10pm and continued into the night, with the district hospital in Chaman receiving three people, including a woman, with injuries, according to the hospital’s medical superintendent. Officials on both sides blamed the other for starting the clash.
Pakistan said Afghan forces fired mortar shells toward the Badani area. Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid accused Pakistani forces of attacking Spin Boldak and said Taliban fighters were responding. Pakistani sources told Dawn their troops retaliated. There were also unverified reports of fighting along the Chaman–Kandahar highway.
A senior Quetta official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the timing of the exchange. The military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and the Foreign Office had no immediate comment.
The Chaman crossing, known as the Friendship Gate, links Pakistan’s Balochistan province with Afghanistan’s Kandahar. Ties between the two governments have deteriorated amid Pakistani accusations that Afghan territory is being used as a safe haven by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Islamabad and Kabul had agreed to a ceasefire after tensions last month, but Pakistan’s Foreign Office later said the truce was not technically in effect because it was conditional on the Afghan Taliban halting attacks in Pakistan, which Pakistan says did not happen.
