Kathmandu, April 7 — Prime Minister Balendra Shah has reordered the Council of Ministers’ precedence less than two weeks after the Cabinet was formed on March 27, the Office of the President said following a Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday. The adjustment, made on the prime minister’s recommendation and under Article 76(9) of the Constitution, changes ministers’ seniority but does not alter their portfolios.
Under the revised sequence, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle now ranks immediately after Prime Minister Shah. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, who previously held the third spot, has moved down to fifth and now follows Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha. In the 15-member Cabinet, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Deepak Kumar Sah occupies the 15th position.
Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, was sworn in as Nepal’s 47th prime minister earlier in March. President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy after appointing Shah under Article 76(1). The ceremony was attended by Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, former prime ministers, senior officials, security chiefs and members of the diplomatic community.
