External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to the Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay in France from Thursday to Friday to take part in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting with partner countries, the Ministry of External Affairs said. He was invited by France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, and is expected to hold bilateral talks with counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting.
The gathering will address major global challenges, including the war in Ukraine and its reconstruction, maritime security, and reforms to global governance. French officials say the meeting follows an informal ministers’ gathering held alongside the UN General Assembly and will help prepare for the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Evian, scheduled for June 13–15. The aim is to produce actionable outcomes rather than only informal exchanges.
Ukraine will be a central focus, with sessions on reconstruction and regional security. The reconstruction agenda seeks at least three concrete results, emphasizing nuclear safety, humanitarian demining, and financing for rebuilding. Participants will highlight the role of international financial institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in mobilising investment for Ukraine’s recovery.
Delegates will also discuss maritime security and threats to global supply chains, from narcotics trafficking to issues related to critical minerals, and will consider routes and freedom of navigation. On governance, ministers will explore ways to strengthen multilateral frameworks and develop innovative approaches to counter cross-cutting threats that undermine state sovereignty.
The meeting will feature outreach to non-G7 partners, with invitations to countries such as South Korea, India, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and Ukraine. Sessions are planned for Thursday and Friday morning, accompanied by multiple side events and working lunches to facilitate deeper exchanges and bilateral discussions.
