New Delhi, May 24 (ANI) — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described India on Sunday as a “key partnership for the 21st century,” saying his four-day visit aims to strengthen ties between the two democracies in the face of shifting global challenges and opportunities. Speaking at the US Embassy in Delhi during celebrations marking America’s 250th Independence Day, Rubio highlighted increasing strategic convergence between India and the United States and the potential for closer cooperation on issues shaping the modern global economy.
Rubio said the US has long built achievements through partnerships around the world and singled out India as an especially important relationship for the coming era. He emphasized shared values and common interests, noting that collaboration between the two countries can improve lives in both nations and beyond.
Calling the relationship both exciting and strategically valuable, Rubio said his visit was intended to reinforce how many opportunities exist for joint work across key sectors. “If I think about all of the key issues and all of the key opportunities of the modern economy, India and the United States together are perfectly positioned to work together on these issues to achieve a better life for the people of the United States, for the people of India, and frankly for the people of other countries working together as well,” he said.
Rubio also expressed appreciation for the hospitality he received in India and praised External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, calling him a “truly wise gentleman” and noting their working relationship since Rubio took office. He described Jaishankar’s performance as “phenomenal” and said he continues to do “incredible work.”
The embassy event featured a musical highlight from Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, whose performance of his anthem ‘Jai Ho’ was a standout of the evening. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor attended the celebration.
Rubio is scheduled to participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday. (ANI)
