Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu met with US Envoy to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi, underscoring continued close engagement between the two countries. The encounter came as the US Embassy in India reshared a message from former President Donald Trump praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasizing the strength of the bilateral relationship.
Sandhu posted on X that it was a pleasure to meet his friend, Ambassador Sergio Gor. Earlier, on March 11, Gor had congratulated Sandhu on being sworn in as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, succeeding Vinai Kumar Saxena. In his message, Gor recalled Sandhu’s service as India’s Ambassador to the United States and praised his efforts to advance US-India ties. Sandhu, a career diplomat with more than three decades of experience, served as India’s ambassador to Washington from 2020 to 2024.
Sandhu took the oath of office this month in the presence of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya.
Separately, the US Embassy shared a quote from President Trump lauding the partnership with India and predicting even stronger ties ahead, reinforcing the public message of close cooperation between New Delhi and Washington.
High-level exchanges between the two governments have continued. US Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby recently completed a visit to India, where he met senior officials, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Colby also co-chaired the US-India Defence Policy Group with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. Those talks advanced elements of the Framework for the India-US Major Defence Partnership that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth signed with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in October 2025.
