Washington, D.C., December 11 — President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a new immigration initiative he calls the “Trump Gold Card,” saying it will speed up visa processing for certain foreign nationals in return for large fees.
Speaking at a roundtable event, Trump said the program’s website would go live shortly and that revenue generated would be directed to the U.S. government. He described the gold card as similar to a green card but with “big advantages,” and said companies could buy cards to retain promising graduates in the United States. Trump invoked demand from technology firms, naming Apple and CEO Tim Cook, and predicted the plan would generate “many billions of dollars” for the U.S. Treasury.
Under the policy framework previewed earlier this year and formalized in an executive order signed in September, the initiative creates a paid, expedited pathway: individuals could pay USD 1 million to accelerate a visa application, while companies would be able to sponsor a foreign worker by paying USD 2 million. Trump has previously proposed a higher-tier option, roughly USD 5 million, that would have provided green-card privileges and a route to citizenship.
The president first discussed the gold card concept in February and directed his administration to develop an application process in September. The announcement on Wednesday outlined the fees and stated the program would be available through an official site launching shortly.
