Washington, DC, December 7 — President Donald Trump on Saturday accused Democratic leaders of allowing crime and illegal immigration to harm American cities, commenting after a stabbing on a Charlotte light rail. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina. What’s going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!!!”
Local authorities and court records identify 33-year-old Oscar Solarzano as the person arrested in connection with Friday’s attack. Solarzano faces several charges including attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury. A release order reported by Fox News noted bond was not set because Solarzano has previously been deported.
Police say they responded to an assault call at about 4:49 p.m. and found the victim, identified as Kenyon Kareem-Shemar Dobie, suffering a stab wound. Court documents cited by media allege Solarzano broke into a rail car “with the intent to commit a felony” and, while intoxicated, challenged Dobie to a fight, shouting “unintelligible and slurred words.” Records indicate Solarzano was assigned a Spanish interpreter and is listed under several aliases.
Solarzano is due in court on December 8 and is expected to be transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody following judicial processing.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy reacted on X, writing: “Apparently, the death of Iryna Zarutska wasn’t enough. What is it going to take for @CLTMayor to remove violent criminals off the streets and protect her constituents? The time to act is NOW.”
