Theft of $963,000 in Graded Cards from FedEx Shocks Collectors

A shocking theft has occurred involving graded trading cards valued at over $963,000. Last week, more than 200 packages were stolen from a FedEx truck parked at the headquarters of Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) in Santa Ana, California.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, the theft was significant, and PSA has since confirmed to the Santa Ana Police Department the preliminary estimated value of the stolen items. As investigations are ongoing, PSA is in the process of determining the exact number of stolen cards and their corresponding value could rise.

PSA’s Response to the Theft

Collectors Holdings, the parent company of PSA, issued a statement addressing the theft and confirmed that they are collaborating with both local law enforcement and FedEx to resolve the situation. They have also alerted their marketplace partners to be vigilant for unique and serialized items to thwart any attempts to resell the stolen cards.

All graded cards from PSA are assigned unique certification numbers, which the company has deactivated for those identified as stolen. This move aims to render the stolen cards much less valuable to potential resellers.

Compensation for Affected Customers

Moreover, Collectors Holdings has reached out to customers whose items were taken, offering compensation based on the fair market value of their lost collectibles. Compensation is subject to the maximum insured value as notified by the customer before the grading process.

Community Response and Support

Among those affected is YouTuber Sky-B Cards who shared in a recent video that they were one of the victims. They had invested $8,468 into grading 104 collectible sports cards, many of which hold irreplaceable sentimental value. With insurance coverage up to $156,000 for this order, viewers are left wondering how much compensation they may ultimately receive.

In light of the situation, other collectors have reached out to YouTuber Boston Card Hunter, who is actively compiling a list of serialized cards that were stolen. This initiative aims to provide a detailed description of the items in hopes that it will help other collectors identify them if they surface.

The community is rallying together, sharing information and strategies to track these stolen items, and support one another during this distressing time.
