Sonos Introduces Useful App Upgrades Ahead of AI Voice Assistant
Sonos is enhancing its app to improve user experience with features like System Health and volume presets.
Exciting Updates Coming to Sonos App
As the anticipated launch of Sonos’ AI-powered voice assistant approaches in Fall 2026, the company is taking strides to improve its app and overall user experience. Recent upgrades aim to address common pain points faced by Sonos enthusiasts, ensuring smoother navigation and enhanced system performance.
System Health: Enhanced Troubleshooting
One of the standout features is the introduction of the System Health tool, currently available only on iOS devices. This new addition empowers users to troubleshoot their audio setups more efficiently. The System Health page provides a detailed overview of connected speakers, network status, and room configurations, helping users quickly identify issues.
For instance, if you've recently upgraded your home router, the System Health feature can recognize and flag the Double Network Address issue. This problem typically arises when multiple network setups interfere with speaker connectivity, often leading to frustrating error messages like "System not found" or unexpected dropouts.
Accessible through the Help Center in the Settings tab, System Health highlights connected and disconnected speakers, showing which ones are powered off. The tool offers vital information, including Wi-Fi signal strength, IP addresses, and the Trueplay configuration status. This comprehensive data makes it easier for users to troubleshoot or reconfigure their audio setups.
New Volume Controls Simplify Listening Experience
Alongside System Health, Sonos is focusing on improving volume control features in the app. Recognizing user feedback regarding unpredictable volume levels, the company is introducing Volume Presets. This feature allows users to set predefined volume levels for different rooms, preventing the shock of suddenly blasting sound from speakers that may have different settings.
Although this feature hasn't rolled out to every device yet, it will be accessible on both iOS and Android platforms soon. Additionally, a nifty swipe-to-skip functionality is being added to the in-app miniplayer. This allows users to swipe left to skip tracks easily without navigating away from the main interface. However, as of now, the option to swipe right for replays is not available, leaving users eager for future updates.
Updates for Ace Ultra Headphones
For the headphone users, particularly those with the Sonos Ace Ultra, an essential firmware update has arrived. This update introduces a new Vocal Guidance feature that audibly informs users about battery life and changes in audio mode. With this improvement, users can stay informed without needing to check their devices constantly.
Looking Ahead: Sonos' Future Innovations
These updates are a testament to Sonos' commitment to enhancing user experience and broadening the capabilities of its products. As users eagerly await the roll-out of these features, it’s clear that Sonos is laying the groundwork for a seamless integration of its systems. With the upcoming voice assistant, it promises to usher in an exciting new chapter for home audio entertainment.
