New Features in Safari Beta

The developer beta versions for MacOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, and iOS 27.3 bring exciting enhancements to Safari, Apple’s browser. Users can look forward to three significant upgrades: vertical tabs, adaptive dark mode, and deeper integration of Siri AI across applications.

Enhanced Siri Integration

Siri is evolving to be a more robust assistant. With increased capabilities, it will perform complex tasks across various apps, simplifying interactions for users. You’ll soon be able to:

  • Create music playlists directly in your library
  • Schedule messages to send later
  • Organize and label your photo collections
  • Set detailed calendar invitations using just your voice

This expanded functionality will apply not only to Music and Messages, but also to Maps, Weather, and Notes, marking a significant step forward for Siri in making your life easier.

Adaptive Dark Mode for a Better Browsing Experience

One of the standout features on the horizon is adaptive dark mode. According to a blog post by WebKit, while nearly 40% of web users prefer dark mode, only about 10% of websites currently support it. The new adaptive dark mode will enable users to experience dark theme options on all websites, even those that don’t natively support this feature.

As someone who often browses in low-light settings, I find this feature particularly appealing. The adjustment will help mitigate eye strain while ensuring a visually pleasant experience when consuming content on bright pages at night.

The Arrival of Vertical Tabs

Also, Safari will soon feature vertical tabs, a layout that many users have come to appreciate in other browsers. This design enhances navigation, especially when juggling multiple open tabs—all while presenting titles in a more readable format on wider screens.

While I personally find this vertical layout beneficial, I hope Safari offers the option to customize the tab placement, whether on the left or right side of the interface, to match individual preferences.

Looking Ahead

The public release of these features is expected by mid-December, fueling excitement among users who rely on Safari. With these updates, Apple demonstrates its commitment to refining user experience and keeping pace with evolving web browsing standards.
