Balochistan, Pakistan — Local reports say alleged enforced disappearances have increased across Balochistan and Karachi, with security agencies accused of detaining civilians without official acknowledgement, The Balochistan Post reported. Families and activists say recent operations left several people unaccounted for.
Quetta and Turbat incidents: Relatives reported that nine men were taken in separate operations in Quetta and Turbat and have not been produced in any official forums. In Quetta’s Killi Qambrani area, eight men were allegedly detained late Tuesday night while attending a wedding. Family members named those taken as Saatak (son of Haji Qudrat Qambrani), Bismillah (son of Khairullah Qambrani), Masoom (son of Shah Jehan Qambrani), Hammal (son of Abbas Qambrani), Aftab (son of Qudoos Lehri), Afzal (son of Haji Mehrab Qambrani), Hair Biyar (son of Muhammad Ishaq Qambrani) and Beeberg (son of Muhammad Abbas). Relatives say no official arrest records have been produced.
In Turbat, a university student identified by family as Noor Khan (son of Nazar Muhammad) was reportedly taken by security personnel and has not been located. Student groups and activists have staged protests, accusing authorities of using abductions to intimidate communities and suppress dissent.
Karachi raid: Separately, residents of Sharafi Goth in Karachi’s Malir district said Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) teams conducted an overnight raid and detained six Baloch youths identified as Zubair Shafi, Nazir Hanif, Hazeefa Irfan, Munawar Atif, Ishaq and Ahmed Gul. Eyewitnesses alleged CTD officers damaged property and used excessive force during the operation, which reportedly followed an earlier confrontation between locals and CTD personnel.
Reaction: Human rights defenders cited these incidents as evidence of deepening state repression and called attention to what they describe as a worsening humanitarian situation in Balochistan and beyond. The allegations of unacknowledged detentions and heavy-handed raids have heightened tensions and prompted calls for transparency, accountability and the immediate disclosure of the whereabouts of those taken.
