New Delhi, Dec 4 (ANI): After nearly five months in detention in Yemen, Indian crew member Anilkumar Raveendran has been released, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. Raveendran was on board the Liberian-flagged, Greek-owned bulk carrier MV Eternity C, which was attacked by Houthi forces in July.
The MEA said Raveendran had been held by the rebels since July 7, 2025, following the assault on the vessel. He arrived in Muscat, Oman, on Wednesday and is expected to return to India soon. The Government of India coordinated with multiple parties to secure his safe release and return.
India expressed appreciation to the Sultanate of Oman for assisting in facilitating the transfer. Houthi media reported that a total of ten crew members from the Eternity C, including Raveendran, were released and flown from Sanaa to Muscat, with Oman facilitating the movement.
The Eternity C was reportedly struck by drones and rocket-propelled grenades off the coast of Yemen in July. The Indian Embassy in Yemen said it was a matter of great satisfaction that Raveendran, detained since July 2025, had been freed, reached Muscat, and was on his way back to India. (ANI)
