Reports from across Balochistan say security forces in Quetta and Turbat detained nine people who have since gone missing, The Balochistan Post reported. In Quetta, eight men were reportedly held late Tuesday during a wedding; their whereabouts remain unknown. In Turbat, relatives say Noor Khan, son of Nazar Muhammad and a student at Turbat University, was taken by security personnel on Wednesday night and has not been accounted for.
Human rights groups have long warned about forced disappearances in Balochistan and say such cases appear to be increasing despite calls for transparency and accountability.
The reports coincided with a large overnight Counter-Terrorism Department operation in Karachi’s Malir district. Residents of Sharafi Goth and Shah Ali Goth told reporters CTD teams conducted door-to-door searches, used force against men, women and children, damaged property and seized a number of people who were then taken to an undisclosed location. Eyewitnesses said six Baloch youths were among those forcibly taken.
Locals linked the raid to an encounter two nights earlier, when CTD officers tried to arrest a young man at a hotel. Bystanders resisted and briefly detained a CTD officer before reinforcements arrived, rescued the officer and left with the youth. Residents said the subsequent operation felt like retaliation and heightened fear and anger in the neighbourhood.
Families of those detained have urged authorities to ensure the safe return of their relatives and to carry out a transparent investigation into the detentions, TBP added. This report is sourced from a syndicated feed and published as received.
