Tehran, April 7 (ANI) — With US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum deadline approaching, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said millions of Iranians have declared they are willing to give their lives to defend the country.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian wrote that “over 14 million proud Iranians have, up to this moment, declared their readiness to sacrifice their lives in defense of Iran. I too have been, am, and will be a sacrificer for Iran.”
The statement came after Iran’s Deputy Sports Minister Alireza Rahimi urged athletes, artists, students and faculty to form “human chains” around power plants as both a symbolic and physical deterrent to possible airstrikes. In a video message, Rahimi invited youth and cultural figures to gather near power stations at 2 p.m. local time, calling the facilities “our wealth and belongings.”
The call followed Trump’s warning of an 8:00 p.m. Washington time deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said that if Iran did not comply, the United States would carry out a simultaneous, massive bombing campaign targeting Iran’s electric generating plants and bridges, aiming to leave them “burning, exploding, and never to be used again” within a four-hour window.
At a White House briefing, Trump warned: “The entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night.” He set an ultimatum for Iran to make a deal by Tuesday 8:00 p.m. ET, saying that after that point Iran would have “no bridges” and “no power plants,” and predicting a return to a “Stone Age” state. Trump said Washington had extended time for negotiations, describing the period as “critical.”
