New Delhi, April 6 (ANI) — Mohammad Fathali, Iran’s Ambassador to India, said in a written interview that Tehran’s foremost priority is defending the country against aggression and hostile actions by its enemies. He emphasized that Iran has spent 38 days responding to attacks and will continue to mount a robust defence.
Fathali said Tehran aims to deliver an appropriate response to what he described as American and “Zionist” aggressors. On the question of negotiations, he explained that decisions to enter talks are made within the framework of Iran’s overarching policies and involve input from the nation’s highest decision-making bodies. Diplomacy will be pursued when it is judged to safeguard the interests of the Iranian people.
Noting Iran’s difficult experience with cycles of war, ceasefire, negotiation and renewed conflict, Fathali said officials are working to avoid repeating that pattern.
He also highlighted BRICS as an important multilateral forum for expanding cooperation with emerging economies and for advancing approaches outside traditional global structures. Iran is seeking high-level participation in BRICS meetings and is urging member states to take a responsible stance on recent developments by condemning what Tehran calls unlawful actions by the United States and the Israeli regime. Fathali suggested BRICS could support international law, counter unilateralism and help ease regional tensions.
His comments come amid a deteriorating security situation in West Asia and the Gulf, as the US-Israel–Iran confrontation enters its second month and hostilities have affected civilian, energy and military infrastructure across the region.
