Tehran, April 1 (ANI) — Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s national security commission, said Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz “will certainly be opened; but not for you,” adding that passage would be allowed only for those who follow what he described as the Islamic Republic’s “new rules.” Azizi framed the comment as a form of “regime change” applied to the region’s maritime order, writing on Twitter that “Finally, Trump has reached the dream of ‘regime change,’ but in the regime of the region’s seas! The Strait of Hormuz will certainly be opened; but not for you! For those who follow the new rules of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The 47-year era of hospitality is over.” Earlier the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters the United States would soon withdraw from Iran and predicted the Iranian government would collapse without a prolonged U.S. presence. Trump said, ‘All I have to do is leave Iran, and we’ll be doing that very soon. And they’ll become tumbling down,’ and suggested Washington could depart even without a deal if it believed Iran could be prevented ‘for a long period of time’ from developing a nuclear weapon. ‘No, they don’t have to make a deal with me… When we feel that they are for a long period of time put into the Stone Ages and they won’t be able to come up with a nuclear weapon, then we’ll leave, whether we have a deal or not is irrelevant,’ he said, adding that Iran’s new leadership is ‘much better’ than in the past but warning future U.S. presidents might again use force to deter a nuclear program.
