Tehran, March 7 (ANI) — As the West Asia conflict entered its seventh day, Iran signalled a step back from strikes on neighbouring states while stopping short of any unconditional capitulation. In a televised address, President Masoud Pezeshkian said the leadership council had agreed to cease further attacks on neighbouring countries and offered an apology to those states. He added that Iran would not launch missiles unless it was attacked first.
At the same time, Pezeshkian rejected demands for unconditional surrender, saying opponents would carry that wish “to the grave.” His comments followed strong rhetoric from US President Donald Trump, who declared there would be “no deal with Iran except unconditional surrender” and wrote on Truth Social that the United States and its allies would only assist reconstruction after Iran’s leadership yielded and acceptable new leaders were installed, urging a push to “MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!).”
Earlier reporting by Axios said Trump had shown interest in influencing the selection of Iran’s next supreme leader after reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been killed in a US-Israel strike, comparing potential US involvement to its actions around Venezuela following Nicolás Maduro’s capture.
Fighting continued on multiple fronts. Israel said it struck military sites in Tehran and central Iran on Friday night, targeting facilities it described as an underground ballistic missile site and a military academy. The IDF reported that more than 80 fighter jets dropped about 230 bombs on the targets and characterised one subterranean facility as used for missile storage and production.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it had launched the 23rd wave of Operation True Promise 4 on Friday night, employing new-generation missile systems aimed at targets in the occupied territories and at US bases across the region, and said the salvo used missiles capable of engaging multiple targets.
