An Indian-origin man, identified as Prem Anan Sugunakumar, was charged on Thursday in a Singapore court after allegedly driving a luxury sports car with his two young children seated on the vehicle’s rear boot. He faces one count of committing a rash act that endangered the safety of children below 14 years of age.
Authorities say the incident took place on October 20, 2025, when Sugunakumar reportedly drove through an upmarket residential area while his children, aged eight and seven, were on top of the boot. Videos of the episode circulated on social media last year and prompted a police investigation.
In court, Sugunakumar’s lawyer said his client would be “taking a certain course” and asked the court to note an early indication of guilt, requesting time to take instructions. The case was adjourned and will return to court on April 22.
Singapore police reiterated safety rules, saying children must be properly secured when travelling in vehicles and must not be placed in dangerous positions such as on car boots.
If convicted of a rash act endangering life, an offender can be jailed for up to six months, fined up to SGD 2,500 (about USD 1,950), or both. Where the victim is under 14, the maximum penalty may be increased to up to twice the usual maximum.
