New Delhi, December 2 — Russia says its defence cooperation with India remains strategic and is increasingly shifting toward deeper technological and industrial collaboration, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s visit.
Manturov described joint development, co-production and localisation as the core pillars of the relationship, noting that Moscow has been one of India’s most important defence suppliers. He pointed out that over the past decade Russia has regularly accounted for more than 30% of India’s defence procurements and that military-technical cooperation continues to strengthen each year.
According to Manturov, the partnership is moving beyond simple supply contracts toward long-term technological collaboration, including projects aligned with India’s “Make in India” initiative. He also said deliveries of the S-400 Triumph long-range air-defence systems are proceeding on schedule, with the contract being executed within the mutually agreed timeframes.
The ties between New Delhi and Moscow have deep roots, stretching back to the 2000 Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership and later elevated in December 2010 to a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” encompassing political, security, defence, trade, science and cultural cooperation.
