Tel Aviv, April 22 — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that its ground units and air force struck targets in southern Lebanon on Wednesday after alleging a ceasefire violation involving two Hezbollah operatives. According to the military, the incident took place in the Saluki area, where the two individuals crossed the Forward Defence Line and advanced toward Israeli soldiers, creating what the IDF described as an immediate threat.
The IDF said it responded with an airstrike that killed the two men and that operations are ongoing in the vicinity to dismantle Hezbollah-linked infrastructure and recover weapons. Military spokespeople said forces continue to clear sites they view as threats to troops and nearby Israeli communities.
The action follows a 10-day ceasefire that began at midnight on April 16. On April 19 the IDF published a detailed map of the Forward Defence Line (also referred to as the Yellow Line), identifying the operational area where Israeli units remain positioned inside Lebanese territory. The military said five divisions, supported by naval forces, are operating south of that line as part of efforts to alter the security situation along Israel’s northern border.
Defence Minister Israel Katz reiterated that the IDF will employ “full force” to protect soldiers in Lebanon if they are threatened. Separately, US President Donald Trump described the 10-day truce as a step toward a wider peace agreement.
