Kabul, Dec. 6 (ANI) — Four civilians were killed and four others wounded after renewed exchanges between Afghan and Pakistani forces near Spin Boldak district in Kandahar, local media and officials reported. The deaths and injuries followed mortar strikes on Maazal Gali and Luqman village on Friday evening.
A woman and a man are among the critically injured and are being treated at Aino Mina Hospital. Afghanistan’s government spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, wrote on X that Pakistani troops had attacked Afghan territory in Spin Boldak and that Islamic Emirate forces returned fire.
Dawn reported heavy shooting along the Chaman border late Friday, with both sides blaming the other for provoking the confrontation. Pakistani sources told Dawn that Afghan forces fired mortar rounds toward the Badani area and that Pakistani troops retaliated. A senior Quetta official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the firefight started around 10 p.m. and continued into the early hours.
Muhammad Owais, medical superintendent at Pakistan’s Chaman district hospital, said three people, including a woman, were brought in with injuries after the clashes. There were no immediate statements from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) or the Foreign Office.
Tensions along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border have flared repeatedly in recent months, with both sides accusing the other of cross-border violations. (ANI)
