Islamabad, December 11 (ANI) — A military court has sentenced retired lieutenant general and former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hameed to 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment, the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced on Thursday.
The ISPR said Hameed was tried by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) that was opened on August 12, 2024, under the Pakistan Army Act. The proceedings continued for about 15 months. He faced four charges: involvement in political activities; breaches of the Official Secrets Act deemed harmful to state security and interests; misuse of authority and government resources; and causing wrongful loss to others.
According to the ISPR, following extensive legal proceedings the court found Hameed guilty on all counts and imposed a 14-year sentence, which was promulgated on December 11, 2025. The statement said the FGCM conformed to legal requirements and that Hameed was allowed full legal protections during the trial, including the right to choose his defence team. It also noted he retains the right to appeal the verdict to the appropriate forum.
The ISPR added that allegations concerning Hameed’s purported role in stirring political agitation and instability alongside political figures, as well as related matters, are being pursued separately.
The announcement follows previous comments by ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry in October, who said internal legal processes were ongoing and would reach a “logical conclusion,” stressing that the army’s accountability mechanisms are evidence-based and allow the accused to defend themselves. Hameed was taken into custody in August 2024 when FGCM proceedings were confirmed by the military. (ANI)
