Reports of enforced disappearances have renewed concerns over the safety of Baloch students in Pakistan. According to local media, Sajid Ahmed, a graduate of the Islamic International University Islamabad and a student of Balochi literature, was allegedly abducted by security personnel in Panjgur while traveling home. His family says he was “taken from the road” and moved to an undisclosed location; more than three days passed without any formal charges or legal proceedings, which relatives describe as a breach of due process and basic rights, the Balochistan Post reported.
Security agencies say Sajid was arrested in Gwarg, Panjgur, and accuse him of possessing explosives and weapons. His family and other relatives strongly deny those claims, calling them fabricated attempts to justify his detention. They insist Sajid is a scholar and writer focused on Balochi language and culture.
The case has intensified anxiety among Baloch students in Islamabad and Punjab, many of whom report discrimination, surveillance and harassment on university campuses. At Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, the Baloch Students Council has maintained a peaceful sit-in for nine days, demanding the safe return of another missing student, Saeed Baloch. Activists say Sajid’s disappearance deepens their sense of insecurity and alienation within Pakistan’s academic institutions, media outlets reported.
Protesters emphasize that their movement is nonviolent and centered on justice: they are calling for the recovery of all missing students, an end to racial profiling, and transparent investigations. They warn that continued disappearances will further erode trust between Baloch youth and state institutions.
Families of Sajid Ahmed and other missing students have urged the authorities to take immediate, transparent action and to ensure accountability. The developments were reported by ANI and The Balochistan Post.
