India’s new ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, began his Beijing tenure by laying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at the Jintai Art Museum in Chaoyang Park. Accompanied by the museum’s curator, Yuan Xikun, he also paid homage to Rabindranath Tagore at the Indian Embassy. The embassy posted images of the visits on its social media channels.
Doraiswami’s arrival comes at a sensitive moment as India and China take cautious steps to stabilise relations after years of strain. A 1992-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, he previously served as India’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and succeeds Pradeep Kumar Rawat as ambassador to China. With earlier postings in Beijing and Hong Kong and experience in multilateral diplomacy, he is expected to play a key role in managing the complex bilateral relationship. (Photos: X/@EOIBeijing)
