Reports of enforced disappearances in Pakistan’s Balochistan province have increased, with families and rights groups telling The Balochistan Post that two more Baloch women were allegedly detained during separate security operations in Khuzdar and Kech districts.
According to the Post, security personnel raided a home in the Istakhli area of Naal, Khuzdar, on April 22. Relatives say they were assaulted during the operation and a woman identified as Sameena, daughter of Dost Muhammad from Ornach, was taken into custody along with her cousin Qambar. Both were reportedly moved to an undisclosed location and their legal status and whereabouts remain unknown.
The Human Rights Council of Balochistan confirmed the incident and voiced alarm at the rising number of alleged detentions of women, noting that the detainees have not been produced before any court and are effectively subjected to enforced disappearance.
In a separate case, 22-year-old Gul Banuk was reportedly detained during a late-night raid in the Singabad area of Kech district on April 14, and the Baloch Yakjehti Committee says her location is still unknown.
BYC leader Dr Sabiha Baloch condemned the detentions, criticizing the lack of due process and transparency. She alleged that women are being targeted to pressure families and discourage dissent, and said detainees are often held incommunicado and later presented under questionable circumstances.
These incidents follow earlier reports of the alleged detentions of nursing student Khadija Baloch in Quetta and Haseena Baloch in Karachi. Rights organizations cited by The Balochistan Post say at least five Baloch women disappeared in April alone and nearly 15 have been reported missing in recent months.
