Tehran, February 28 — Iranian officials say they launched a targeted missile strike against a U.S. military facility in Bahrain. The Iranian embassy in New Delhi posted video footage showing plumes of smoke at the site and described the attack as deliberate and aimed at enemy targets.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) condemned what it called the “brutal aggression of the Zionist regime” and said the strikes were a response to prior hostile acts. In a statement carried by the embassy, Tehran said: “In the Name of God, the Breaker of Tyrants. In response to the aggression of the hostile and criminal enemy against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the first wave of extensive missile and drone strikes by the Islamic Republic of Iran toward the occupied territories has commenced.”
Regional reports indicate that the United Arab Emirates intercepted missiles launched by Iran, according to Khaleej Times. Officials are still assessing the full scope, damage and casualty figures from the reported Iranian strikes.
The incident comes amid a wider escalation in the region. Israel and the United States announced a joint operation they described as intended to neutralize what they call an existential threat from Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked U.S. leader Donald Trump for American support, describing his leadership as “historic.” Netanyahu said Israel and the United States had begun an operation to remove the threat posed by Iran and called on the Iranian people — including Persians, Kurds, Azeris, Balochis and Ahwazis — to rise against the regime and seek a peaceful, free Iran.
On his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump confirmed a military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure. The Israel Defense Forces named the action OPERATION ROARING LION, saying its goal was to eliminate the threat to Israel.
Trump warned Iranian forces to lay down arms and surrender, offering immunity to those who do, and warned others they would face “certain death” as the situation in the Middle East intensified following strikes by Israel and the United States across Iranian territory. Analysts say the episode follows weeks of tense nuclear talks and mounting military posturing in the region.
At this stage, independent verification of many claims remains limited and investigators continue to evaluate the extent and consequences of the strikes.
