Balochistan [Pakistan], December 8 (ANI): Reports from across Balochistan say Pakistani forces in Quetta and Turbat allegedly detained nine people who have since gone missing, The Balochistan Post (TBP) reported.
Eight men were reportedly held late Tuesday during a wedding; their whereabouts remain unknown. In Turbat, family members say Noor Khan, son of Nazar Muhammad and a student at Turbat University, was taken by security forces on Wednesday night and has not been accounted for since.
Human rights groups have long raised concerns about forced disappearances in Balochistan and say such cases appear to be rising despite calls for transparency and accountability, TBP added.
The reports coincide with a large overnight Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) operation in Karachi’s Malir area. Residents of Sharafi Goth and Shah Ali Goth said CTD teams conducted door-to-door searches, used force against men, women and children, damaged property and seized a number of people, taken to an undisclosed location. Eyewitnesses said six Baloch youths were forcibly taken.
Locals linked the raid to an encounter two nights earlier in which CTD officers attempted to arrest a young man at a hotel; bystanders resisted and briefly detained a CTD officer before police reinforcements rescued him and left with the youth. Residents say the subsequent operation felt like retaliation, heightening fear and anger.
Families of those detained have urged authorities to ensure the safe return of their relatives and to carry out a transparent investigation into the detentions, TBP reported. (ANI)
