On April 30 in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu presented credentials to Vikram Doraiswami for his appointment as India’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China. The Indian Embassy posted the development on X, confirming his new assignment.
That same day Doraiswami held a meeting with Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi. According to the Army’s ADGPI post on X, their discussion addressed current geostrategic issues, bilateral engagement, and measures to strengthen existing mechanisms amid ongoing sensitivities in India–China relations.
The credentialing and related engagements come as diplomatic and defence-level contacts continue. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun during the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek, describing the interaction as cordial. Separately, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George held talks with China’s Special Envoy for Climate Change Liu Zhenmin on the global climate agenda; Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India stands ready to be proactive in advancing climate action through the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.
Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong reiterated that China values India’s role as the rotating BRICS president. Xu noted that China’s special envoy on the Middle East, Zhai Jun, met India’s MEA Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra in New Delhi, and said China and India, as major developing countries, have maintained communication on key international and regional issues. Xu expressed hope that BRICS consultations on Middle East affairs will convey a constructive message for regional peace and stability.
