Islamabad, Updated: 12:56 PM Dec 11, 2025 IST — The United States has approved a $686 million package to provide advanced technology and support for Pakistan’s F-16 fleet, the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a letter to Congress, according to Dawn.
The assistance includes Link-16 datalink systems, cryptographic gear, avionics upgrades, training and comprehensive logistical support. The DSCA said the sale is intended to help Pakistan retain interoperability with US and partner forces for ongoing counterterrorism operations and to prepare for possible future contingencies.
Specifically, the package targets modernization and safety improvements for Pakistan’s Block-52 and Mid Life Upgrade F-16 aircraft. The agency said the updates and refurbishment work will address flight-safety concerns and extend the operational life of the jets through 2040, while enabling smoother integration with the US Air Force during exercises, training and combat operations.
Assessing Pakistan’s capacity to absorb the equipment and services, the DSCA noted Islamabad has demonstrated a commitment to maintaining its forces and should be able to field the systems without difficulty. The agency also concluded the sale would not change the basic military balance in the region.
The total estimated value is $686 million, with major defense equipment priced at $37 million and the remaining $649 million covering other items and services. The DSCA said the assistance will help ensure Pakistan can continue to operate its F-16 fleet safely and effectively. (PTI)
