Abu Dhabi, May 14 (ANI) — UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘true treasure’ for the leadership and people of the Emirates ahead of his visit to the UAE on May 15. Speaking to ANI, she said the visit will build on a long-standing partnership and carry forward regular high-level exchanges following the UAE President’s visit to India in January and the Crown Prince’s attendance at the AI Summit in February.
Al Hashimy expressed enthusiasm about deepening ties in trade and technology, saying the relationship is poised to scale ‘new mountain tops.’ She highlighted that after exceeding the initial $100 billion trade milestone under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), ‘Team India and Team UAE’ are now targeting $200 billion in bilateral trade.
On energy, the minister warned that the global landscape has been affected by supply disruptions linked to the West Asia conflict and developments around the Strait of Hormuz, saying that energy has been ‘weaponised.’ She explained that the UAE’s recent decision to leave OPEC was motivated by a desire to act as a ‘responsible global player’ and to produce to full capacity amid supply challenges — a topic expected to feature in bilateral talks.
Al Hashimy also pointed to emerging areas of cooperation, noting growing work in artificial intelligence, quantum and supercomputing, and major infrastructure initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). She remarked that reaching one pinnacle only reveals more ‘mountain tops’ to climb with a partner like India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a five-nation tour from May 15 to 20, visiting the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy. (ANI)
