Beijing, May 13 (ANI) — U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a state visit and a high-stakes summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He was greeted on arrival by China’s Vice President Han Zheng; U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue was also among those present.
This marks the first state visit by a U.S. president to China since 2017. Earlier Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the two leaders will engage in in-depth discussions. Guo emphasized the unique role of heads-of-state diplomacy in providing strategic guidance for bilateral ties and welcomed President Trump’s visit as an opportunity for both countries to expand cooperation, manage differences on the basis of equality and mutual respect, and offer greater stability amid a changing global landscape.
The meeting is the first face-to-face encounter between Trump and Xi since their October meeting in Busan. China’s embassy in Washington reiterated sensitive red lines ahead of the visit, posting on X that four issues should not be challenged during the talks: the Taiwan question; matters related to democracy and human rights; differences in political systems and development paths; and China’s right to pursue its development. The embassy’s post framed those topics as the “four red lines” of China–U.S. relations.
President Trump’s visit is scheduled to run from May 13 to May 15. This report draws on coverage from a syndicated feed (ANI) and was published as received.
